Looking for Monahan family from Doonass

Congratulations on a fantastic online resource for those of us on the otherside of the world!

I am hoping that some kind soul will help me find out more information regarding the Monahan/Monaghan family that emigrated to New South Wales, Australia from County Clare.

This is what I have regarding the Monahan family from Doonass, Kiltenanlea Parish

Daniel Monahan b.about 1814 and his wife Mary White (born about 1816) arrived in NSW Australia aboard the “Adam Lodge” in Feb 1840 from Doonass, Co.Clare. It seems they married around 1838 in Limerick (not sure if Union or County). Before emigrating they had one son, John born about 1839 who remained in Ireland; why or with whom is unknown.

Daniel’s official death record in 1898 lists his father as Michael, but his shipping records indicate his father’s name was Daniel and his mother was Ellen McNamara or McNamee.
The family settled in the Goulburn area and later applied for their son John to join them in Australia. There was a remittance form and payment of 4pounds in 1853 from Daniel Monaghan which indicated his son John was an agricultural worker aged 14, living with Michael Connor in the Parish of Parteen, Limerick. John had references from a Samuel Caswell and a Mr Barrington. John arrived in Australia in 1854 aboard the “Lady Elgin”.

The 1855 the Griffith Valuations show two Michael Monahan’s living at Derry Fadda in the Parish of Kiltenanlea – leasing land from a Mr Daniel Barrington; the Barrington name may indicate a possible link between the Derry Fadda Monahan’s and John.

The church records for the parish of Kiltenanlea have two Michael Monahan’s from that time period.

Ellen 14.1.1858

2) Michael married Margaret Tuttle and had the following children:
Pat born 31.3. 1852
Margaret 31/7/1855
Michael 28/9/1853
John 16/11/1856


Are there any more records or information that may assist in finding out more about the Monahan family and their forebears from this area?
