Patrick Mahony murdered at Cappa (Kilrush)

Post by Paddy Casey » Fri Apr 10, 2009 8:54 pm

The Irish Times of April 17 1860 reports that an inquest returned an Open verdict that the "Deceased, Pat Mahony, was found dead at Cappa, parish of Kilrush, and county of Clare, and we are of the opinion he was murdered by some person or persons unknown". The prisoner, Maurice Heathermon, was discharged by the coroner but immediately arrested and taken to the police barrack where J.M'Cullagh,Esq., RM, commenced an investigation into Mahony's death.
