Thomas O'Grady was born on 26 March 1839 in County Clare. On 12 Sept 1856 Thomas O’Grady aged 17 joined the Irish Constabulary being recommended by the Rev M Dinan the Clondegad parish priest. On 15 April 1861 Thomas O’Grady and his sister Margaret boarded the Chrysolite at Gravesend and emigrated to NZ. He became a prominent policeman. His parents were described as farmers. He was a Roman Catholic, 6 ft tall with blue eyes and black hair (New Zealand Police records). His mother Bridget (O'Loughlin?) who remarried to Edmund Walsh also emigrated to NZ and died 1877. Thomas' cousin Mary O'Grady was also in NZ in 1871 but had some unknown connection and grief in Queensland Australia.
In 1863 Thomas O'Grady married Frances Jackson Thompkins of Berwick upon Tweed, Northampton. They had nine children.
Any help in Thomas O'Grady's family tree would be truly appreciated. Ann O'Grady
