Clare County Library Gmaps

Post by Clare Past Mod » Thu Feb 21, 2013 4:52 pm

In the messages on Riverside House in Corofin at http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=4719 reference was made to the new GMaps viewer on the Clare County Library site at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... index.html# . This viewer allows various old and new maps to be combined with satellite images of County Clare using an overlay system. For example, 1842 Ordnance Survey maps can be combined with modern-day road maps and satellite views of the countryside on one screen. This greatly facilitates location of old houses, monuments, townlands, parishes, etc.

There is an illustrated Help page for the Gmaps at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... /intro.htm with step-by-step screenshots showing how to set up a desired set of overlays. The Help page can be called up in a new window by clicking on the little question mark on a blue background at the top right of the map screen. The Help page can be printed out and then used with the maps so as to make it easier to discover and use all the features on the Gmaps system.
