Post by markthespark » Wed Dec 19, 2012 8:32 pm

Hi

I am looking for any information re the families of Michael Keating and Mary Shaloo.

Michael and Mary married in the RC chapel of Miltown Malbay 9 Feb 1875.

I have a copy of the marriage cert which gives Michael as resident in Kilgarboy ato marriage. Father's name given as John Keating who was a farmer.

Mary is resident in Clonbony ato marriage and her father is given as Pat Shaloo.

Witnesses listed as Martin Murtagh and Catherine Benn.

Kind regards

Mark.

Hello Mark - I pressed 'a few buttons' on http://www.clarelibrary.ie - Genealogy - Research Support - Civil Parish Index - - the areas you mention are in the Parish of Kilfarboy - (this covers the area around Milltown - - so when you select that you will see lots of info - The first bit of info is 1855 Griffith Valuations shows 'DARBY SHALLAE' at DRUMMIN - then 1901 Census shows ELIZA SHALLUE aged 72 Head of House with her daughter, Mary O'Brien and her family - also grandson Timothy McMahon - Household Return form says ' Husband of Mary O Brien in America for last 16/18 yrs.' see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie - and 'browse' under 1901 Census for Clare DED of Ballyvaskin and Drummin. Then the Census of 1911 shows Eliza Shallue living with the McMahon family - still in Drummin. It is possible that the O Briens went to America. As regards Michael Keating - - it is possible that he was working for Murtagh family in the neighbourhood/townland of Kilfarboy - DED of Ballyvaskin - you will see Murtagh family in Census of 1901 - - no Keating families in this area - - however just up the road in the next Parish of Kilmanaheen - at Rineen there is Michael Keating and his wife Mary - with children John, Patrick and Kate - again see Census of 1901 - for RINEEN in DED of Moy. That sounds complicated - but when you press a few buttons you will soon find the info. Hope you can figure this out !! Also have a look at http://www.clarelibrary.ie - Genealogy - 1901 Census - surname index - and you will see various spellings of Shalloe/Shaloe - etc.
Miriam. p.s. the 1911 census for Keatings at Rineen, DED of Moy shows Mary had 3 children. Also Clonbony is CLOONBONY.

Thank you, Miriam.

That's very helpful.

I am going to order a couple of microfiche from the LDS to see what comes up re births/marriages.

Regards,

Mark.
