John Joseph Lynch Excise Officer Kilrush & Ennis early 1880s

I am trying to trace the descendants of my grandfather's brother John Joseph Lynch.
I believe the following about him:
Birth: 1843-06-03, Belvoir, Clare.
Baptism: 1843-06-03, O'Callaghan Mills, Clare. [evidence on Clare library site]
Married Mildred. Children: Catherine, Augustine. Emigrated to USA [only evidence is my mother's memory]
I have recently found, in the Irish Petty Sessions Court Registers for Ennis, in 1883 and 1884, references to a John Joseph Lynch, an excise officer in Ennis (some of the references are just to John Lynch).
And in the Clare Journal of 12th November 1883
"The Excise:
Mr. J.J. Lynch, officer of the Inland Revenue, who was stationed at Kilrush for some time past has been transferred to Ennis.—"
I think this might be my great uncle because each of his five brothers was an excise officer.
I have tried, without success to find out more about this excise officer J J Lynch. Please can anyone help me show whether he is my relative or not?
David Lynch
