GLENOMERA ESTATE in Ballyquin, County Clare

Post by Skyrish2us » Thu Apr 12, 2012 12:59 am

GLENOMERA ESTATE

Does anyone know if any records survive from the Arthur Estate of "Glenomera" near Ballyquin Beg? I would be interested in any photos or drawings of the estate or records of staff who worked at the estate or account books etc. before it fell into the hands of the receivers - perhaps any time from say 1820 to 1865 give or take?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of estate papers for the Arthurs of Glenomera listed on the Landed Estates website http://www.landedestates.ie/LandedEstat ... sp?id=2001

Thank you for this information. Do you know if it is possible to access those records on line, as I am on the other side of the world!

I have tried to access those records but it is apparently not possible.
All the links do is keep leading back to each other.
Thank you anyway for trying to assist - it is appreciated.

Hi,

I'm not sure this is relevant, definitely not relevant to your question, but have come across a marriage where residence of Groom is mentioned as "GLENOMORA." I was unable to locate any town or townland of this name, so had just chalked it up to bad writing. Here is the marriage info:

At Scariff RC Parish, with celebrant Fr. M J Kenny:
6 FEB 1875
Stephen Gunning of Glenomora married to Ellen McNamara of Moynoe
Witnesses were Denis Carroll and Honora McNamara

Best regards,

According to Houses of Clare, Glenomera where the Arthurs lived is in the townland of Ballyquin More, parish of Killokennedy.

Thank you both for your replies. Any connection to Glenomera is of interest to me and thank you for the names. In these small places, these names invariably crop up on Baptism Certificates as sponsors etc and I take note of any find in records. Much appreciated.

Hi,

My name is Michael Kelly and I am a distant relative of the Arthur family who used to live at Glanomera house, Ballyquin. If you would like to read more about the family they have a page on
http://www.thearthurfamilyoflimerickandclare.com. The house itself burned down in 1905 and nobody seems to know why.

If you would like to contact me directly to ask me any questions which I will try to answer if I know the answers. You can contact me at info@kayletec.com

Best Wishes,

Michael Kelly.

Thanks to transcriptions generously donated by Katrina Vincent, now online in the "What's New" section of the Library's main website,
there are more references to people connected with Glenomera:

Biographical Notices of Clare People from the ‘Limerick Chronicle’, 1831-1837
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... 1_1837.htm

Wednesday 30/11/1831:
In Dublin, most deservedly regretted, the Lady of Thomas Arthur, Esq.,of Stephen’s Green and Glanomera, Co. Clare, and sister to Lady O’Brien of Dromoland.

Saturday 28/6/1834:
LOSS OF THE JAMES, EMIGRANT VESSEL, FROM LIMERICK TO QUEBEC...
From Glanomera, John Hayes, James Hayes, John Collins, William Terry, farmers;

For the rest of us, setting aside fifteen minutes to read through the numerous entries is very worthwhile. Many of the reported deaths occurred in 1832, due to cholera which struck all social classes. It was perhaps a good year to live in a remote, isolated location. Placename spellings are pretty good, considering this early time period. There is a "Belleview" instead of Belvoir in East Clare.

Great link, Sharon, thank you so much. I found three leads going through that information which appear to be relatives of mine.
Much appreciated.

Hello Jim McNamara,

Regarding your previous post, is it possible for you to contact me with more details? That post has now become relevant to my research. Can you tell me where you found those details?

During my research on Glenomera, I have now found anothe Gunning from Glenomera and i am trying to connect all these families.

Cheers

What is your real name and where are you from?

This is from my transcription of the second marriage register filmed by FHLC and now posted to Clare Library website at:
