I am researching my family tree and looking for the ancestors & siblings of Mary (middle name Ann or Ellen) O'Shaughnessy B: Abt 1834-1839 in Ennis, Co. Clare.
She migrated and settled in Adelaide or Victoria, Australia some time before 1864 which is when she married (as a spinster) Edward or William Johnston, B: Abt 1824-1825 who came from Lincolnshire, England. She gave birth to my great grandmother Mary Johnston B: 1868 in Victoria, Australia. I have slightly conflicting source material in terms of whether she married an Edward or a William as attached. The marriage registration states that Mary O'Shaughnessy was a spinster, and that her parents names were Andrew O'Shaughnessy (butcher), and Mary Armstrong. They had the following children: Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary (my great grandmother) & a stillborn baby.

Re: Looking for family of MARY O'SHAUGHNESSY Ennis, Co. Clar
The Ennis Parish Baptism Register at http://www.ennisparish.com/genealogy/ lists a baptism of baby Nancy to parents Andy Shaughnessy and Margt Armstrong on 30 Dec 1843. This could be another sibling of your Mary, but as the Register only commences in 1841, I'm not sure how much help this is. I notice also that butcher Andrew O'Shaughnessy is listed in Slater's Directory of 1846.
Have you tried Familysearch? Good luck.

At the Ennis parish website (http://www.ennisparish.com/genealogy/), there is a birth registered for Nancy Shaughnessy, born December 30, 1843. The parents are identified as Andy Shaughnessy and Margt. Armstrong.
Andrew O'Shaugnessy also appears in the 1846 Slater's Directory in Ennis,

His shop is identified as being in the Market in Ennis.
Good Luck!!!!

Thanks John and Murf - that's a good start. Any more clues/thoughts/links from other forum members would be great. I wonder if any more details exist about Andrew O'shaughnessy the butcher such as where he lived and who he lived with. I can't work out if his daughter Mary came to Australia on her own or with other family members....

Seán Spellissy's book The Merchants of Ennis (published 1996) contains this about the O'Shaughnessys of Ennis:
The O'SHAUGHNESSY family originated in what later became the barony of Kiltartan in County Galway. They must have been here [in Ennis] prior to 1740, when Matthew Shaughnessy was appointed as an applotter. Michael Shaughnessy, a tailor was admitted as a freeman in June 1749; Patrick Shaughnessy became a freeman in 1750, and Catharine Shaughnessy was accused of cornering the market by "buying up new milk in great quantities" in 1783. In 1846, Andrew O'Shaughnessy kept a butcher's stall in the market. In 1901, 1912 and 1925, the O’Shaughnessy family was represented by Mary O’Shaughnessy who was a spirit dealer in Market Street. In 1930, Miss O’Shaughnessy was a spirit dealer at 18 Lower Market Street. In 1958, Rose O’Shaughnessy was a chemist and druggist in Abbey Street. In 1969 and 1976, R.A O’Shaughnessy was a chemist in 29 Abbey Street. Geraldine O’Shaughnessy opened the Benetton premises at 35 O’Connell Street in 1989. She transferred it to the Dunnes Stores Mall in 1992, and opened a separate establishment, the Gio Gio fashion store, at 73 O’Connell Street in 1993. In 1996, she was operating both businesses.
