“John Mahoney was born in Ireland. In his childhood, his father, Timothy Mahoney, brought the family to America. John growing up and attending school in Niagara county, N.Y. He entered the service of the New York Central Railroad shortly before his marriage, and continued with that company for forty-five years...being an engineer. He had encountered railroad dangers on many a stormy trip...only to have his own life sacrificed by accident in the familiar yards at Niagara Falls. The tragedy occurred Sept. 28, 1910.

...John Mahoney was married to Bridget Maloney, daughter of Michael and Margaret (Burke) Maloney. The father of Mrs. Mahoney was born in County Clare, Ireland, came from there in early manhood and...settled at Youngtown, in Niagara county but spent his later life at Niagara Falls, where his death occurred when he was fifty-nine years old. He married Margaret Burke, who lived to the age of seventy-eight years. They had...one son and two daughters, James, Margaret and Bridget. Margaret died in 1919, wife of Joseph McDonald. James...was born at Youngstown...March 3, 1851. He...began taking care of himself when only twelve years old, his first work being in the old Franklin House...three years later went to he went to the Cataract House and continued [there] for fifty-two years. He married
Margaret Reilley, who died in 1885, leaving one daughter Mary who resides with her father. Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney had four children, as follows: Margaret, who is the wife of William McMahon, and
Mary, Josephine, and Daniel. The last named married Jessie McKay and they live on Tenth street,
Niagara Falls. The family belongs to St. Mary's Catholic Church.”

Maloney, who for many years has been the leading representative of the coal trade at Niagara Falls, operates under his own name the oldest coal and wood yards in Niagara county...Mr. Maloney was born at Niagara Falls in 1859, his father, Edward Maloney, having settled in this city in 1838. Edward Maloney was born in Ireland in 1825, and died at Niagara Falls, Sept. 21, 1902. For some years he was in the employ of the New York Central Railroad Company, but sixty years ago started the coal and wood business here, in which he has continued for fifteen years...[until] succeeded by his son...The main yard...[is] situated at No. 1037 South avenue at the Erie Railroad crossing...

[Michael] is a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belongs to the Knights of Columbus and the Order of th Elks...[He] married Anna Frank, daughter of John L. Frank, who was a successful building contractor at Buffalo, N.Y., and they have six children: Frank, Edna, Roswell, George, Vincent, and Paul. [The sons all held positions in the family business, with Roswell becoming in 1916 a member of the Municipal Civil Service Commission.]...Edna...was the wife of Charles A. Baker [and] died at Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1918.”

Attached is a pdf file which has the biography for Edward Maloney, coal merchant and father of Michael who took over the
business. Edward was a May Day baby in 1825, born to Murtey and Margaret (Innarnaly). Edward had 10 siblings, seven of
whom immigrated to the U.S. Edward arrived in 1848 but did not reach Niagara County until 1852, with intermediate stays in
New Hampshire, Utica NY, Washington D.C., and Vermont.
