For the general study of Holy Wells, the following are recommended:
(1) Sacred Waters by Janet & Colin Bord (London 1985); (2) Celtic Saints in their Landscape by Elizabeth Rees (Gloucestershire 2001); (3) In Search of Ireland's Holy Wells by Elizabeth Healy (Dublin, 2001); (4) The Rites of Brigid Goddess and Saint by Seán Ó Duinn (Dublin, 2005); (5) Saints & their Cults in the Atlantic World edited by Margaret Cormack (University of South Carolina Press, 2007).
For useful material on Co. Clare Holy Wells see The Holy Wells of Kilmacduane Parish by Edmund Lenihan in THE OTHER CLARE vol 28 (2004) and similar surveys by the same author in other vols. Also, Holy Wells & Sacred Trees by Michael Mac Mahon in Clare Association(Dublin) Yearbook 2013.

The most recently published history I’ve read is The Story of Clare and its People by Dr. Matthew Potter and Dr. John Treacy, edited by Joe Power (Published by Clare County Council, 2020)*. It is subtitled “A History of Local Government in Ireland’s Banner County 1570-2020”, which makes it sound a bit narrow and dry, but in fact it is a really helpful short history of Clare - especially the first few chapters - and a joy to read for the sheer clarity of it.

*It is a4 size, or maybe folio size (there's lots of great photos), so it may not come through the letter-box.
