Ask about Ireland, Griffith's Valuation

Post by moc66 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 1:09 pm

Hi everyone

This site has gone quiet of late everyone must be on holidays. Here is a link that will interest a lot of people out there. It is on the site Ask about Ireland which can be accessed on the new online resources link on the Clare library site
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/online ... /index.htm. It may already be referred to in a previous post but I haven’t seen the link. It is the Griffith’s Valuation for Ireland on the web. You can look at the map where your ancestor had land and get details. Not everybody will be able to use as only people renting or owning land over an acre were in the valuation books. If your ancestor is in the Clare library Griffiths records then you can key in the name in this site http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php. If you are successful you will be able to access the original map of the land division. Also details of the person’s ref no. on the map and ref no. in the Valuation Books. The actual page with all details may not yet be accessible as this site is still a work in progress. When this site is completed you will be able to access it from anywhere in the world and save yourself a trip to the Valuations Office in Dublin to pore over the books. The reason this site is quiet as well, you could all be looking at this, Old Ireland News - a cornucopia of Clare items http://www.irelandoldnews.com/ from Paddy Casey’s post.
The online resources that can be accessed from the clare library site will keep a lot of people busy. Again thanks to the Clare Library Staff for making it a lot easier for Clare people everywhere to access more and more sites linking to our past.
