Kilbaha Pilots

Post by moc66 » Sun Jun 15, 2008 10:12 pm

Hi
This tradgey occured some months before the rescue of the Windsor Castle in March 1843 (re post Inis Cathaigh). Putting pilots on board vessels at the mouth of the River Shannon was a very hazardous occupation. Right through the 19th century there have been losses to crew and pilots who endeavored to ensure vessels large and small reached their destination. The currach was the boat most used to to ferry the pilots out of Kilbaha. This boarding took place on Saturday, December 24, 1842.
