Ordnance Survey map viewer online

Post by smcarberry » Sat Aug 13, 2011 5:20 pm

Posting this quickly on my way out for the day, but I just looked at this link provided by Dennis Ahern, a genealogist in the Boston MA area and former TIARA webmaster -- in his own words:

"Ordnance Survey Ireland now provides a really nice map-viewer at
http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,591271,743300,0,10

You can zoom in on locations in Ireland and view them as topographical
maps, street maps, or historical maps. You can actually zoom in and look
at property lines in the 19th century Ordnance Survey maps."

I don't remember seeing anything like this posted on the Forum already although there are other sites with all-Ireland maps and zoomable views. I also didn't compare this site to what the Clare County Library provides via links directly from the library website.

So, if this is a repeat, excuse this; but if not, then here is yet another resource to assist us with a better appreciation of the area we are using in our research. There was no way of predicting the availability and abundance of such resources even just a couple of years ago.
