They say don't believe everything you read in the newspapers but there must be a kernel of truth in this 1895 news item. Watertown is in the extreme northern section of New York State, and the Tombs is the name of a notorious old jail in New York City, on the other end of the state. I assume that this was published for its curiosity value and not to report the activity of a local person. The curiosity value for modern readers is that infiltrating a male-dominated profession was ever a crime. Back in those days a person was usually free to provide whatever version was desired as to name and identifying information so long as fraud in a specific transaction was not involved.

Bridget's surname name is shown as Delacry, which might be Deloughery.
