This report from the Freeman's Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser (Dublin, Ireland), Friday, November 2, 1821 is of a general nature and contains no names but it gives an idea of the disturbed state of the world in which our Clare ancestors lived in the early 19th century.

Between three and four thousand military are intending to form cordons from Listowel to Ennis and from Kilrush to O'Brien's Bridge. That's a total of around 75 miles as the crow flies, i.e. around 46.66 soldiers per mile.

The "...city..." referred to in the cutting is Limerick.
