Antiquated terms used in old death certificates

Post by smcarberry » Sun May 01, 2011 5:50 pm

A fellow Carberry family historian, the wife of a pediatrician, has just provided me with a link to a website devoted to connecting modern diseases and disorders to terms previously used, with examples drawn from death certificates of the 1800s and early 1900s. No background is provided for the fellow who put up this website, but he has cited his sources. If you don't like his site, links are provided to similar websites.

This leads to the "p" page with phthisis (consumption) and the various types of fatal paralysis:

Hope that proves useful.
