I don't know whether this has been mentioned on this forum already (I did a search but couldn't find a thread mentioning it) but if one searches archive.org with Google* rather than with its own search facility it often throws up many more relevant references.
Definitely worth trying.

* Use Google's "site:" syntax to focus it on the site you are interested in. For example, enter the following into the Google search field : site:archive.org Clare or site:archive.org "County Clare"
