The St. James's Chronicle or the British Evening Post (London, England), Saturday, March 28, 1778 tells us of a duel between Mr Henry Ivers and Mr John Wilson, both of Sixmilebridge. After firing first shots they broke off the duel but then (the story is a little complicated here) a shot was fired from Mr Wilson's house, killing John Ivers, the brother of Henry Ivers, and mortally wounding the latter. The coroner brought a verdict of Wilful Murder against John Wilson and the latter and his brother Henry Wilson fled.
