Mrs Barey of Mullogh (62) gives birth to twins (1777)

Post by Paddy Casey » Fri May 09, 2008 7:49 am

On February 3 1777 the wife of Michael Barey of Mullogh* in the West of the County of Clare was delivered of twins. She was 62 years of age. (London Evening Post (London, England), Tuesday, February 18, 1777).

Of course, it is up to the reader to decide on the credibility of this report (Mrs Barey may have been only 61) but it nevertheless interesting because, for example, someone doing family history research on the Barey family might find that it tallies with other cases of fecundity in the family.

In Guy's directory of 1893 there is a Barry, Michl J, a grocer, listed in Mullagh (see http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... ullagh.htm ) and the Griffiths Valuation lists a Barry, Michael in Carrowlagan: Mullagh Village.
