1839 Parish Census Milltown Malbay

Post by Lucille » Sun Jan 23, 2011 2:31 pm

Would anyone know where the original,or a full microfilm of this resource is held? It is currently being transcribed on the igp archive but the pages/people I want haven't appeared yet. I have one sheet which came via a contact in 2001 from the Clare Heritage Centre which implies they had/have the material in some format.

BTW great to have found you all again - hiding in plain view on the Clare Library site! Makes me wonder what else I've missed!

What's the URL for the pages that have already been transcribed, please?

Scans of the original document:
http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/ ... index.html

and the transcriptions:
http://www.igp-web.com/igparchives/ire/ ... malbay.txt

Note: these links no longer work. See correct links below. They must have renamed the igparchives folder as IGPArchives - and it looks like the website is on a Unix server (which is case sensitive).

Are the pages on the igp-web site the only ones that have survived, or are there more originals somewhere waiting to be photographed and transcribed?

I'm looking for the Burkes of Doonsallagh East; only Doonsallagh west is in these extracts!

These townlands are in Kilmurry Ibrickan civil parish, but appear to be in Miltown Malbay catholic parish for the purposes of this census and probably ever since the parishes were separated on the death of the parish priest of the united parishes in 1839 (something Kevin O'Brien pointed out to me recently).

[Mullagh and Miltown Malbay were administered jointly until Fr. McGuane P.P. died in 1839 (see http://obrienkilmurryibricakne.blogspot ... e-and.html and Limerick Chronicle 30 Mar 1839: 'The Rev. Anthony M`Guane, P.P. of Miltown and Kilmurry, county Clare.').]

The census has been moved from the links provided by mcreed above, or at least the URLs have become case-sensitive.

The images are now at
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/ ... index.html

The transcriptions are now at
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/ ... malbay.txt
