Treasure hoard at Lughid Bridge still buried ?

Post by Paddy Casey » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:16 pm

I was wondering whether there are any members of this forum who might know whether the chests of gold and silver buried by the men of Connaught when they were routed by Lughid Menn, the leader of the Dalcassians in the invasion of Thomond over a 1000 years ago, were ever found. Fourteen chests of gold and several sacks of silver forks and spoons and goblets and some caskets containing ladies' jewelry were buried near what is now known as Lughid Bridge. The Tubber to Crusheen road passes over the latter a mile or so south of Tubber.

Presumably numerous attempts have been made to find this treasure in the meantime but I have failed to find any reports that they were successful.

Just wondering.

Paddy
