Clare County Library duly recognized for excellence

Post by smcarberry » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:56 pm

May I be forgiven if I am jumping the gun in introducing this news to the Forum, but good news is so welcome and this is the best kind. A major Irish genealogical association, the Council of Irish Genealogical Organisations (CIGO), has determined that the Clare County Library is receiving its Award of Excellence in Genealogy for 2010. The Library now joins a very small circle of recipients, the others being the Dublin City Library, The Irish Times, and the National Archives (Dublin). Here is the link to the CIGO page:

The below screenshot is a portion of the news discussed in the online publication Irish Library News:

The source for this is an alert from a McMahon descendant with whom I am working to determine her family's Clare townland. She has never been to Clare but she is very proud and happy about this new event that touches her heritage.

As a volunteer transcriber of donated databases to the Library's website, I am very pleased to see the careful and clear references to our contributions.

Hearty congratulations to all involved with the Library. Such just deserts and, of course, this is only a momentary diversion from the main event, which is development of what a modern library can be. May your vision never dim.

Let the good times roll,
