Clare-England Emigration

Post by ploughman » Fri Dec 03, 2010 5:31 pm

I am interested in learning about emigration patterns from Clare to England in the mid-19th century and related record keeping (or lack thereof). Were any records kept of emigration within the UK, such as Clare to London, which are similar to passenger lists or naturalization records, to the US or Australia, and show place of birth? Stated another way, are census records are the best evidence of of emigration within the UK? (I have found records of my Clare ancestors in Southwark in 1851 and Salford in 1871 & 1881, and would like to find out if there's more information on their emigration to be had). Are there any books or written resources on this topic? Thanks for any information or ideas.
Pam
