The Times, Tuesday, May 09, 1786; pg. 2; Issue 429, tells us of a balloon flight made in 1786 by Mr Crosbie. He ascended from Limerick watched by 50,000 spectators and flew for one hour and seventeen minutes across Clare. At Ennis and Sixmilebridge "....the inhabitants were enraptured with the sight of him......" and he descended at eight o'clock at Dromoland, the seat of Sir Lucius O'Brien, Bart.
