Patrick O'Dea

Any information re Patrick O'Dea (1835-1900). Born in County Clare at a place called Clare Castle although I think it could also have been New Park (which was the anme of the property he owned in northern NSW).
He arrived in Australia around 1850/1855; with some people saying it was on the White Star in 1855 although the age of the person on the White Star is out by about 5 years.

His parents were Daniel O'Dea and Bridget Flynn.

Let's assume that the information about Clare Castle (var. Clarecastle) and New Park are correct and that the birth date is correct. Let's also assume that his parents or their families were sufficiently sessile to have been assessed for tithes in the 1820s. Let's also assume that his grandparents lived in the same townland or adjacent townlands (because in those times people would usually marry people from very nearby).

Take a map of the Ennis area which shows the townlands and go to the alphabetical list of O'Deas in the Clare county Library Tithe Applotment list at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclar ... Gormon.htm Note all the O'Deas who were in the Ennis area at the time and plot them on your map. Do the same for the Flynns. See whether there are any geographical coincidences. If there are then you might have located those families' residences in the 1820s.
