Census enumerators had to be literate and able to undertake their duties without impacting their livelihoods; thus these men were likely to be middle-class gentry. Those for Clare were named in the Parliamentary report providing all kinds of statistics taken from the census that was not preserved as a record of all the individuals living in Ireland at the time. However, pay records for the enumerators were preserved and thus these names exist.
