Clare property in Unions of Gort, Scariff, & Limerick, 1838

Post by smcarberry » Fri Aug 20, 2010 4:44 pm

This is not a new subject as there have been repeated postings over the years, in which family historians are cautioned to become familiar with changes in the boundaries of County Clare and also how lesser administrative districts grew and shrank to include Clare property. The attachments to this posting are an authoritative description of the Gort, Scariff, and Limerick Unions and their included Clare property as declared by the year 1842. Actually the Scariff Union was primarily Clare property, with some Galway property included. Remember that back then Mountshannon was part of Co. Galway.

I am also showing (in a reply to this posting) the title page of the House report in which these descriptions appear.
