Here is the link to a U.S. university library's page of links to digitized newspapers, with the labeling of "freely available" for those accessible by people without a connection to that university. Don't let the appearance of this page put you off; just scroll down to the colored-block sections. Then, as Paddy Casey recommends, make sure you have made your exit from the outer world valid for the next several hours and that you have your favorite beverage with you. While those with U.S. ancestors or relatives will be the main beneficiary of this, someone researching an Irish event can also find good descriptions and sometimes a listing of names. Newspapers globally, particularly those published in major urban areas, reported on events in Ireland to a considerable degree during the latter half of the 1800s. Also, you can find obituaries of emigrants with the story of why the old Irish home had to be left behind.
I know that Cyndi's List has a newspaper section that likely has several of these but the digitization effort behind the ones on this webpage resulted in the same interface being used, so that once you have mastered doing a search on one site, then you repeat that methodology with the other sites. It's not hard. Place a search term in quotes, etc.
