These reports from the Morning Chronicle and London Advertiser (London, England), Monday, September 27, 1784, dateline Ennis, and the English Chronicle or Universal Evening Post (London, England), Tuesday, September 28, 1784; Issue 897, describe a duel between Mr John Boucher and Mr Richard Evans near Tubber. Both were over 60 years of age. According to the Gloucester Journal (Gloucester, England), Monday, October 4, 1784; Issue 3260, both were of the County of Clare. The duel resulted from a disagreement at the Assizes of Ennis. Mr.E. took the first shot and lodged his ball in Mr.B's groin. Mr.B "....with the greatest coolness (although it is feared mortally wounded) preserved his ground and returned the fire, wounding his antagonist in the belly".

Both subsequently died of their wounds.

Mr Evans was a gentleman of the strictest integrity and most unblemished character.
