New group of RC parish records online; volunteers needed

Post by smcarberry » Sat May 22, 2010 9:25 am

I am only a messenger regarding this, as all the work to date as been done by Forum member Larry Brennan and a cohort of volunteers recruited on the Rootsweb Clare mailing list. The first product of that international effort has come online at:

http://www.ennisparish.com/

That site currently has the entire set of marriage and baptismal records from the Ennis Parish, as allowed by the local bishop in response to Larry's request. The transcription was done by a set of Australian Clare descendants. The Quin marriage records have been transcribed as well and there will be Quin baptisms eventually as well.

Larry reports that the Doora-Barefield records need transcription and he has sought a set of volunteers from North America for that although the number is too few to proceed at this point. It may be that this Forum has more active types from the U.S. and Canada, than the old Rootsweb list. If you already have a way to contact Larry directly, by all means do so with your offer to volunteer. Do not post to this Forum; I can collect your names and forward those to Larry directly. Let's have a good turnout for this historic event of making more 19th-century records accessible to the Diaspora. If you haven't done a good deed in a while, shake off the cobwebs and get with it.
