Griffith's Valuation: interpreting the tables

Post by Paddy Casey » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:27 pm

The following is not specifically a Clare posting but if it helps someone augment the body of knowledge of our Clare ancestry then it's all to the good.

The article "Is There More in Griffith's Valuation Than Just Names?" by James R. Reilly, CGRS, has been published at various places on the Web. I'm not sure where it was originally published. It can be viewed at, for example, http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/GRIFFITH/Griffiths.PDF .

It is very succinct, can be read in 20 minutes and is packed with useful clues for those reading and interpreting the original Griffith's Valuation in an attempt to glue together their family tree. In fact, I'd regard it as required reading on the subject.
