Peter,

Browse/search http://www.clarelibrary.ie It's crawling with Cooneys and Moroneys (I stopped counting the Moroneys in the 1901 census at 50).

Hello Peter - I happened to be looking at Griffith Vals. under a different name and saw townland of Oatfield - which is shown in Parish of Clonlea or Clonleigh. So on to http://www.clarelibrary.ie - under Genealogy and at bottom right hand side of page - Research Support - there is Parish Index - click on the map and you will see that Clonlea parish is No. 49. - in the middle of mid East Clare. Open this and you will see various townlands - photos and lots of info. Go back to Research Support - to Church Records - and under Clonlea parish - told go to Killuran Parish - this will show Bapt. & Marriage records available from 1835. !! so this should help. No Moroneys at Oatfield - but they are in next townland of Derrynaveagh - you will find them again on http://www.clarelibrary.ie under Genealogy on 1901 Census at 105/1 - in Limerick Union (on Census by DED).
The Parish Priest lives at O Callaghan's Mills, Ennis, Co.Clare. (This is a village which I am sure you will find on maps).
You should be able to get a print out of all Moroney families in Parish up to 1900 (Project done by students some years ago).
As Paddy said - Moroneys are spread across county - but you are now confined to one Parish !!.
Miriam.
