satellite views of Ireland

Post by M. McNamara » Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:22 pm

Satellite views of the 26 counties are available at http://www.epa.ie/. It's the website of the Environmental Protection Agency, a Govt. body. It is inferior to Google in that the views are older, the zoom is not as good and the response time is slower.
It is superior to Google in that all of County Clare is covered in detail and, best of all, it is possible to view townland boundaries superimposed on the satellite image.

Directions: Go to http://www.epa.ie and click on the epa maps button on the top right hand corner. A new page opens. In the bottom left hand corner, open the General Administrative box and click on townlands. In the top left corner, select county and townland and click on GO. An interactive satellite view will then open.

Thanks very much indeed for flagging this. I've been searching around for ages for good satellite images of those parts of Clare where the Goggle coverage is very low resolution and now you have the solution. I have a professional aerial photograph of the area between Tubber and a point roughly 4 miles SW of the village cross. It was taken from 18,000 feet and the resolution is roughly the same as these satellite photos.
