Enhanced British Parliamentary Papers on Ireland, 1801-1922
Researchers into Clare's past (or Ireland's past, for that matter) may be interested to know that this month (August 2007) the University of Southampton is moving an enormous database of British parliamentary papers to new servers and is thereby extending the access to those papers. My thanks to Pro...

Terence Ryan of Adergull/Adergule
My thanks too to David Kenny for this very substantial transcription. In it I found my putative GGGF Terence Ryan (residence Adergull, holding freehold in Adergule, this giving me two additional alternative spellings of the townland otherwise known as Addergoole or Adragoole). His townland is given ...

Clareman in the AIF in WW1: Thomas Casey
Over the last few days the Clare Library mill has been loading one major family history database after another onto their website (go to http://www.clarelibrary.ie and click on What's New to boggle at the goodies). The latest one is a database of Claremen/Women who served in the Australian Imperial ...

Book: Clarecastle and its Environs
Local history books such as parish histories can be invaluable. I have the parish history books of Kilkeedy, Crusheen and Beagh (Co.Galway) on my shelf. I often use them for reference and am amazed that each time I dip in I find something new. They are accordingly very well thumbed. For those that a...

1841 shipwreck involving Clare emigrants out of Limerick
Thanks for this, Sharon. A number of Caseys there and, interestingly, the names of some of the neighbours of the Caseys of Moyrhee/Shanballysallagh in Clare. As we all know, neighbours often travelled in groups from the locality when the emigrated.
Tantalising !

Very Rev. Lord Fitzgerald and Vesey listed in Griffiths 1855
In the 1855 Griffiths entries for various townlands in and around Tubber in Co.Clare the name "Very Rev. Lord Fitzgerald and Vesey" crops up as a landlord. He was listed as my great-grandparents' landlord in the village of Moyrhee in the townland of Shanballysallagh and he was the landlord of variou...

Miltown Hennesseys
Did you notice all the Miltown Hennesseys on the Clare Library site at http://www.clarelibrary.ie ?
If not, just go there and start their search facility and type in Hennessy AND Miltown*. Lots of them there around 1855.
* Also, try variants of the name Hennessey.

Clare cemeteries
Thanks, Jennifer. I've added it to the list.
By the way, you can also contribute cemetery transcriptions directly to the Clare Library website (I contributed some from Ruan and Temple na deirca (Tubber).

McGreens in Kilkee
Diahann,
Go to the Clare Library website at http://www.clarelibrary.ie and enter "McGreen and Kilkee" into their search engine. Plenty of stuff there.
Also, consider alternative spellings of the name McGreen when searching, e.g. McGreane and McGrane.

Clare emigrants to Australasia - updating of dataset
In the course of 2005 members of the Rootsweb Clare List contributed family history data on County Clare emigrants to a Clare-Australasia dataset. The data thus collected is published on the Clare diaspora website at http://clare-diaspora.org and can be downloaded in various formats from Penny Gordo...

Famine Echoes - an RTÉ series - essential listening
Those who are interested in the histories of their Clare families rather than the purely genealogical aspects must listen to the RTÉ broadcast series entitled Famine Echoes at http://www.rte.ie/radio1/famineechoes/1115374.html The accounts are very moving and help one understand the struggle for sur...

Dowds / O'Dowds in Clare
Jan, Have you already trawled the numerous Dowd references in the Clare Library records at http://www.clarelibrary.ie ? I couldn't find a direct hit for Dowd in Dunnogan there but there are lots of Dowds in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation at http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/griffiths/...

Book: The Parish of Kilkeedy - A Local History
The book "The Parish of Kilkeedy - a Local History" compiled by Frank Brew is essential reading for Clare historians and genealogists who are focussing on the townlands around Tubber*. The book is a paperback, 310 pages stuffed full of names, dates and photos. The individual chapters were contribute...
