Re: Lahinch Golf Club

Any luck with the book you ordered? Perhaps you have already seen the article by "History Ireland" on "Golf's Early Days in Ireland". The article contains a nice photo of some Lahinch Golf Club members on the course but no women in the photo. Although it did include a brief history of women golfers ...

Re: Eliza Page:Inisparran, Clare, to Warrnambool, Victoria,

Hi Lyn, Regarding John Page the farmer of Moorfield, Galway that I had suggested a few months back as worthy of further research. Had I known the distance of Moorfield from Inishparran not sure that I would have been so keen on suggesting. Using Google Maps even today the 112 K journey takes 1 hour ...

Re: Grogan and Quinlivan of Kilrush and Limerick

Interesting radio show, now Bishop John Ireland's name will start to pop up everywhere! From the St. Paul Union Advocate newspaper of 8 August 1913: ..."Whereas, John Ireland , of the City of St. Paul and State of Minnesota, has delivered to the Probate Court of the County of Ramsey an instrument in...

Re: Grogan and Quinlivan of Kilrush and Limerick

Was at the public library on Saturday, and had a look for shipping records for the Daniel Quinlivan family. Was easy to find - see below screenshot. The entire Daniel Quinlivan family who were listed in the 1885 Minnesota census are on the shipping record of the Ship Baltic arriving in the USA on 22...

Re: Grogan and Quinlivan of Kilrush and Limerick

Paddy, had a second look at the St Paul city directories. Previously must have searched specifically for "Edward" and didn't pick up "Edw". From the 1913 directory (see below), Edw Quinlivan died 20 May 1913 at the age of 75. Although the age is off by abowt 7 years, this must be the Edward Quinliva...

Re: Grogan and Quinlivan of Kilrush and Limerick

Paddy, will try my best not to stray from your main topic. From the annual St. Paul City Directory we can learn a bit more about your Edward Quinlivan. His occupation was the clerk at the Cavalry Catholic Cemetery in St. Paul. Most likely having so many relatives who were Catholic priests back in Ir...

Re: Patrick Real U.S. Civil War Pensioner living in Tarmon C

Patrick Real and Michael Condon would remain on Hilton Head along with the rest of Company C for about 5 months. Not much record of their activities during this time in South Carolina. In July 1864, they were listed on the company roll sheet as "absent". In accordance with a special order, Patrick R...

Re: Patrick Madigan, County Clare, Ireland

Hi Kevin, One thing to consider is that when immigrating to America, the journey across the Atlantic often made an Irishman a few years younger. So if Patrick Madigan stated that he was born in 1873 and you are unable to find any baptism records, you should have a look up to at least 5 years earlier...
