Re: Irish Civil Registration Indexes at pilot.familysearch.org

I am looking for the husband of Adelaide Frost whom I have mentioned on another thread at http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=843 Her marriage is indexed as Name: Adelaide Frost Registration district: Limerick Record type: MARRIAGES Registration date - quarter and year: Apr - Jun 189...

John Arthur (c.1867-1951), photographer, Kilrush, Ennis, &c.

My greatuncle Willie Waldron (1899-1974) lived in Clonmel with his wife Addie, née Adelaide Teresa Arthur (1902-1991). Later in life, she used a different middle name, calling herself Adelaide Augustus Arthur. I grew up presuming that Addie was a native of Clonmel, but have just discovered in the 19...

Re: Irish Civil Registration Indexes at pilot.familysearch.org

There is a good letter by Patrick Murphy on page 29 of the current issue of Irish Roots magazine (2009 Number 4), headed `Frustrated By Certificates Limit At The General Register Office, Dublin.' I fully endorse his criticisms of the lack of service at the GRO. Patrick also says `I have paid for far...

Re: Cabey and Morony families: Can anyone help?

I'm not sure what's ironic about the old Irish custom of marrying in Shrovetide (the period between January 6 and Ash Wednesday, with many marriages taking place on Shrove Tuesday itself). I thought it would be interesting to check the date of Shrove Tuesday in each of the years in your list at http...

Re: Irish Civil Registration Indexes at pilot.familysearch.org

Here's another anomaly in the pilot.familysearch.org database - a couple from Clare with the groom and bride recorded in different `Registration districts': Name: Stephen Scanlan Registration district: Dublin South Record type: MARRIAGES Registration date - quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1891 Film numb...

Re: Clare-born women in Wollongong: Brady,

More great stuff, Sharon. The Elliott family is documented in detail on pages 67 and 68 of West Limerick Families Abroad. Isabella Brady had a sister Christina married in 1855 to Henry Arthur Francis Waldron - possibly a very distant relative. See Waldrons of Illawarra at http://www.binary.co.nz/Wal...

Re: James Bentley, M.D., son of James of Parteen

Thanks for posting that picture, Sharon. That Cyclopedia was published in 1912 or 1913. Shortly afterwards James signed up for service in the Great War. Details at http://www.aif.adfa.edu.au:8080/showPerson?pid=20814 James lost his mother (née Anna Maria Keays) at a very young age in tragic circumst...

Re: News items for Ennis, central Clare, and undetermined places

Another slight correction to this one: Feb, 21, at the Church of the Catholic University, Morgan John O'CONNELL, Esq., of Ballylean Lodge, county Clare, and the Temple, London, to Mary Anne, only surviving child of Charles Bianconi, Esq, D.L., Longfield, county Tipperary. [This apparently is a cousi...

Re: The faces of Clare-born in New Zealand

This old message has just been brought to my attention - I don't know how I missed it. The NZetc website seems to be broken tonight; I cannot get beyond http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-Cyc03Cycl.html I suspect that the James Frost and Michael Frost mentioned above are the sons of Patrick Frost...

Re: Bethell

Michael I have information on the descendants up to the present day of Edmond M'Cann and Annabella Bethel(l) who married in Limerick PLU in 1864. I have no idea of Annabella's background, but since all the Bethels in Clare in Griffith and in 1901 were to be found in Ieverstown, there's a good chance...

Re: Dates of existence of Tulla Poor Law Union

Many thanks Michael. My question is answered at http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Tulla/ In 1907, the overcrowded condition of the District Lunatic Asylum at Ennis led the Clare County Council to propose the amalgamation of the Tulla and Scariff unions, with the Tulla workhouse then being converted into ...

Dates of existence of Tulla Poor Law Union

I have been looking in the Irish Civil Registration Indexes for the deaths of my GGgrandmother's first cousin Thomas O'Halloran and his wife Bridget O'Halloran. They were born in 1841 and 1848 respectively and lived in Rhineville House in the townland of Rine in the parish of Quin. Both were alive i...

Re: Irish Civil Registration Indexes at pilot.familysearch.org

At http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Limerick/Limerick_No__4_Urban/Connolly_s_Range/630633/, I found a 1911 census return for John Parker (b. Co. Limerick) and his wife Bridget (b.Clare), who said that they had been married for 32 years. I was asked to explain how I had determined Bri...

Re: Information please, the County Clare Surname ( Kanary )

Don't try the main tourist office in Dublin for your Discovery Series maps - they don't sell them and don't know that the nearby Hodges Figgis and Waterstones bookshops do! I paid EUR8.50 a few weeks ago in Carrick-on-Shannon for the map of that area, where my Waldron ancestors may have originated. ...

Olwynne Casey 1914-2009

I am sure that I speak for all on this forum in offering my condolences to our second most prolific contributor Paddy Casey on the death of his mother last Friday. May she rest in peace.
