Tithes for Killuran parish are in Roscommon (by mistake)
The tithe applotment books held in the National Archives have been digitally imaged and sorted by county (http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp), but Killuran parish, Co. Clare, has been mistakenly included in Killummod parish in Co. Roscommon**. The people who voluntee...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo Good work. Lots more great research done by you. Thanks also for the link to the Skeleton Army, which I’d never even heard of. In the online transcriptions of the Tithe Applotment Books, all the Killuran townlands have been mistakenly filed under Killummod parish in Co. Roscommon – see Cool...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo
That is Far and Away the best possible explanation for the McNalty mistranscription. Well done!
And thank you for the story of Andrew and Ellen (from Co. Cork) in San Francisco; a sad story, but also a tribute to the kindness of Adjutant J.H. Banberry of the Salvation Army.

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo That is wonderful (your discovering that McNamara was transcribed as McNalty). That is a bad transcription indeed. This morning, I looked that the name McNulty in the different Unions in Co. Clare (online), and it became clear that only “McNalty”, and not McNulty, indicated a mistranscripti...

Re: John McNamara (c.1764–1822), Coolnahilla, Killuran.
Hi Jimbo, No, I can’t find the record of the death of Denis McNamara in Coolnahilla on 31 Dec 1871. The 1911 census shows the three Coolnahilla McNamaras, Myles, Mary Kate and Daniel, who benefitted by the will of Mary Kate McNamara, Santa Barbara: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cl...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
I won’t interfere with your MNamara project. I hope it goes well and the problem resolved. Thank you for that explanation of how Andrew came to have savings in a San Francisco bank. I had been imagining that Andrew never left Ireland, but had a brother who lived in San Francisco and who had left And...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo, I found your post regarding the separation of the surname “MacNamara” from “McNamara” in the G.R.O. transcriptions online. On Apr. 25 2019 you wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2019: With regards to the Irishgenealogy.ie search engine, I should clarify that it appears to pick up "MacNamara" when searchin...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo and Sharon As you both know, the surname Mack in Co. Clare is a variant of McNamara/MacNamara, but in other counties it may stand for some other surname beginning with “Mc”, so it is understandable that the G.R.O. records online treat Mack as a surname in its own right. There were quite a f...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo, Firstly, well done discovering that McNamara has been transcribed as “MNamara”, and so often. The online transcriptions of the G.R.O. records usually allow for some variations, so I am surprised to hear that “MNamara” was not recognised as “McNamara” and was treated as a separate surname. ...

Re: Thomas J. Madigan, Sergeant Major U.S. Army, born in Kilrush
Moneen seems to be another name for Clooneylissane – the baptism records for Mary, Thomas, Patrick and Michael Madigan give Moneen as the address. Kilimy is another name for Killimer – see variants for Knockera Catholic parish here: https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0792 Emily, the homeplace of Marg...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo I am not sure that Catherine McNamara, whose death in Kilkishen in 1874 was reported by a Margaret McNamara, is more likely to be the wife of John McNamara (1800-1869) than is Mary Walsh. The Kilkishen address is a point in her favour, but the description of her as married comes against her...

Re: Thomas J. Madigan, Sergeant Major U.S. Army, born in Kilrush
Good work, Sharon, tracing that Matthew Madigan family to Denver, Colorado. I agree that John, who applied for the headstone, may be a son of Matthew. In the meantime I’ve been looking at another Madigan family living in Clooneylissane, Knockerra (usually called Kilimer) with a son, Thomas, born May...

Thank you, Sharon, for joining in the search for the relatives of Thomas Madigan who died in Denver, Colorado, in 1921. As for myself, I must admit to feeling lost at this stage, and of no great help. Hi Jimbo, thank you for the story about Michael Brew, demanded by me in my last posting. I must adm...

I notice that I did not do a very good job transcribing that list of priests. I stopped short at the end of the left-hand side. I should have noticed that there were more names on the right-hand side. I've now added them to my transcription
