Drumcliff Baptisms 1841-1879
Here is my transcription of Drumcliff parish baptisms: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634714#page/1/mode/1up A transcription made by Clare Roots Society has been available at https://www.ennisparish.com/genealogy/ for several years now, but I wanted to make one with sponsors and placename...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo That’s a huge amount of work you have done on the Rogers family of Drummin, Feakle. And you succeeded in unravelling a tangle of McNamaras. I’ve been reading it with interest, especially as I remembered Della McNamara, who was described as a cousin of Mary McNamara in the ships manifest in ...

Re: Parish Records - Transcribers Register
Hi Murf I’m taking advantage of the large lake of time available at the moment to do a transcription of the Drumcliff baptisms. I know it’s been done already by Clare Roots Society, but I want to do a version that includes placenames and sponsors. I'm hoping to have it ready by the end of the month....

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell
Hi Deirdre Thank you very much indeed for taking so much trouble to send me those records. I’ve been looking at them with interest and will be mulling over them for some time. I am intrigued by Edmond P. Considine, who seems to be occupying a house with John Considine in High Street (the Tobacconist...

Re: Michael G. Considine and Daniel O'Connell
Hi Deirdre Thank you very much for doing all that work on records, and for the anecdotes too. Yes I looked at the 1933 Electoral Register. Would you believe I was able to take a good guess as to which families most of those Considines belonged – a sign of a lot of straying away from the main path by...

Hi Matthew
Thank you - I will try to get that book. The author is Ultan Cowley. Sorry I have so little to contribute.

Re: emigration grief in Clare
Hi Matthew I'm afraid I have very little to contribute. When you mention building sites, Dialann Deoraí , by Dónall MacAmhlaigh, springs to mind straight away. That book left such an indelible impression that I think we forget that many thousands of Irish workers settled into ordinary, comfortable l...

Re: McInerney 1898 postcard from Killawinna to Belgium
Hi Jimbo Thanks for that interesting posting. I hadn’t known about the American College in Louvain. Just a small point on the first William Maly, b. 16.05.1828, son of Pat Maly: his mother is Mary Halloran, not Anne. William's siblings are Mary b. 06.04.1826; Michael b. 19.07.1830; Bridget b. 01.03....

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jim
Good work. It shows how very helpful the U.S. records are. And shows that second cousins were all part of the family. They were invited to weddings and, as we know, “going to a wedding is the making of another.”

Re: Info wanted for: Knoc(k)agarrane, Rooskamore, Ballyinchinmore
Hi Murf Yes, it’s very possible that Reidy is a transcription error in that 1858 marriage record and that it should be Murrihy. As you say, the birth of Kate in 1860 ties in with an 1858 marriage. You confirm that Patrick in the 1901 census is the son of Charles Callinan and Kate Murrihy. Is he the ...

Re: Info wanted for: Knoc(k)agarrane, Rooskamore, Ballyinchinmore
Hi Murf I looked at Drumellihy Cunningham in Kilmacduane, but haven’t found the Callinan-Campbell connection you are looking for, I’m sorry to say. I looked at the Patrick Callinan, who is living in Drumellihy Cunningham in 1901, aged 35. I think he is probably a descendant of the Edmond Callanan, m...

Re: Info wanted for: Knoc(k)agarrane, Rooskamore, Ballyinchinmore
Hi Murf I looked at Campbell on the Genmap and notice that there are Campbells in quite a few places. I think the Campbells in Kilmacduane are not the same Campbells who are in the 1821 list and 1829 list that you provide links for. I notice that the 1821 List of Freeholders puts Knocagarrane in the...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo A lot more work done by you there. Yes, it does seem likely that James McNamara in Plot 15 and Michael McNamara in Plot 49 (in Griffith’s Valuation of Maherabaun) were brothers, but it is only a likelihood. I really don’t think you should move on to saying, “The movements of her [Anne McNam...

Re: A link between Cahermacrea, Ruan, and the Titanic
Well, I was wrong when I said that the statue of Michael O’Loghlen was installed in the Courthouse in Ennis in 1852. I see now, in this piece on some graves in Ruan old graveyard, that the statue was in the Four Courts in Dublin: “Until 1922 there was a statue of Sir Michael in the Four Courts in Du...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,
Hi Jimbo, I forgot to answer your question about where the parish registers were kept. I think they were kept in the priest’s house (in Ireland we use the word “presbytery” for the priest’s house, but I think "presbytery" refers to elders of the church in other places). People searching for their ro...
