Famous Italians with Clare connections
I have always confused Charles Bianconi (1786-1875), the Italian-born founder of public transportation in Ireland (who married an Irishwoman and settled in Ireland) with Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937), the Italian-born developer of wireless telegraphy (who was the daughter of one Irishwoman and marri...

Re: Query re Liber Mortuorum (Death/Burial Book)
That sounds like the death register for the Catholic parish of Fanore - i.e. the register of all funeral services held in the church or churches in that parish, regardless of where burial or cremation subsequently took place. Such registers were not kept by the Catholic church in the 19th century bu...

Annicariga/Annacarriga
When I recently got the death certificate of Robert Sambrooke Taylor (see thread at http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=410), I was surprised to find that it was registered in the District of Annicariga (sic) but that he died in `Killaloe, Killaloe'. Killaloe is an ancient town boast...

That's not the worst - Risbuingham should read Lisluinaghan!
It's pronounced and often spelled locally Lislanahan.

Re: Irish Civil Registration Indexes at pilot.familysearch.o
There is a blog at http://labs.familysearch.org/blog/ which allows people to post comments with feedback to the LDS site designers. Several people (myself included) have already requested that the Irish Civil Registration Indexes be made searchable on all fields, or specifically on the Year, Quarter...

Land Commission 1976 and other years
I just stumbled on an interesting list of Clare farms at: http://historical-debates.oireachtas.ie/D/0288/D.0288.197602170044.html The Irish Land Commission had taken possession of lands in the places listed from the families named because due to death, old age, infirmity or other cause the registere...

Re: Release of 1911 Clare census online postponed
For those who have not seen the good news buried in another thread - late August really did mean (very) late August - the 1911 census of Clare - and of numerous other counties - is available online at long last!

Re: Coolisteige Castle
I have come across a few other Taylors in the parish of Kiltenanlea and nearby parishes who may be of interest to you: As early as 1821, Captain William Vere Taylor was living at Burtonhill, in the parish of Killeely, County Clare, later the residence of Edward Hodges Goggin, his son-in-law. See art...

Re: Robert Taylor of East Clare
Gabrielle In your search for your Taylor ancestors, have you ever come across any information about Robert Sambrooke Taylor (born in England 15 Nov 1789, died here at Killaloe 4 Feb 1866)? He farmed in Essex before moving to Killaloe. A mutual cousin is looking for more information about him. Paddy ...

Other Clare journals (pun intended)
I just had reason to refer yet again to Thaddeus Breen's excellent website cited above. From http://www.xs4all.nl/~tbreen/journals.html one can find tables of contents for not only The Other Clare but also three other Clare-related journals:
Dal gCais
Sliabh Aughty
North Munster Antiquarian Journal

I presume this is the Patrick Hartigan who is among numerous individuals of Clare birth or Clare descent included in a new list of "the Top 100 Irish Australians of all time." Re: Memorial cards
In my family, they were called `in memoriam cards'. They were either kept in empty chocolate boxes or inserted between the pages of prayer books/missals.
Thanks to Sharon for highlighting the Crowley Cousins site - I found lots of my own relatives in it!

Re: Kelly-Kenny obituary online in NY newspaper 1914
It is interesting to see how obituaries can vary with respect to such basic details as the place of death! In London, an obituary in The Times (Monday, Dec 28, 1914; pg. 9; Issue 40736; col C) entitled 'Death Of General Kelly-Kenny. South African War Services' says: 'We regret to announce the death ...
