We may be at cross purposes here. The Hehirs who were mourners were originally from Ballycorick. I dont know if they were the same family or not but they married into the Taaffes. I have not seen them use O'Hehir but maybe some do
The are the Hehirs buried with the Taaffes in Ruan graveyard

Re: Does anyone recognize this house in Cratlo?
Its normally spelt Cratloe. Try the 1911 census search on the national archives website. This only shows one family of Mcinerneys. You may recognise the names. People often say they come from a town that they lived close to |(which may not be their postal address). You may need to look at a map get ...

Re: bribes to landlords' agents in pre-Famine and Famine tim
yes on the same lines but not exactly similar. In the early 1800s my gt gt gt grandfather Edmond Kenny and his sons acted as land agents for the Synges around Corofin and also West Clare. (mount Callan area) They sublet lands and relet them to tenants. At one point George Synge put an ad in the pape...

Re: Lingard New Zealand
No I am afraid not. There was one Thomas Lingard (he was actually John Thomas) of Cooga Ruan (I have since spoken with the New Zealand people who descend from his son Roger Rowson). He moved to Clare from the North of England. He was a protestant soldier who served at Waterloo. He was married to MAr...

Re: Annie Lingard
Thomas Lingard of Cooga house Ruan was married to a cousin of mine Maria Kenny daughter or William Kenny. She had ten children He was widowed in 1851. He served at the battle of Waterloo so must have been old enough then - in his 70s. He did not remarry. He was quite well off and had land in several...

Re: Mary Higgins
If you found her trial report it probably would just say her name. Try the inchiquin papers and see if you can find her father as a tenant. They are in the NLI . Often people rented farms and then sublet - their tenants wont be there nor would those who worked on other farms but if they lived in six...

I dont think it was unusual for Catholics to be army officers in the mid to late 19th century. I can point to loads in my own family, the most well known was General Sir thomas Kelly Kenny. He had brothers and numerous cousins army officers. His sister married an eminent Catholic naval officer. I ha...
