Databases for DNA Comparison
I recently had a relative provide a DNA sample for one of the major testing programs. He is the g-g grandson and in a direct line of males to the immigrant who came from Clare around 1850. The purpose in doing this testing was to hopefully find a connection from a very distant relative who might be ...

Re: Digitized Mass. records, Boston Archives online
The 1850 has two men of the right age and name, although Michael is spelled Mial and Michel, one in Pepperell and one in Littleton. That same year an Ellen Brown stated her age as 40, and she has a 10-year-old Mary A. with her, in Lowell. Sharon - I got a chance to look into your findings. I agree ...

Re: Digitized Mass. records, Boston Archives online
Sharon - I was not aware that woman of the time might have used younger dates in this way. I'll have to keep that in mind. Re: the Michael Brown entries...it was my impression that Michael came over by himself, preceded by his sister, Bridget, a year or two earlier...her arrival is in her obit. I th...

Re: Digitized Mass. records, Boston Archives online
Sharon - Thanks for that run down. I have quite a bit of info on Michael and his family once they arrive in the Groton/Ayer area, including some of the things you mention. But I will verify those things you point out with my own documents that I have at home. I followed up on the Bell Rock 1850 ship...

Re: Digitized Mass. records, Boston Archives online
Thanks for the links. http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=8727#p8727 I was poking around and couldn't find any of my relatives arriving around the 1850s. Then I realized, I think mine might have come through New York. Not 100% certain, but as my info is a bit sketchy, I haven't been able...

Re: Bridgetown Graveyard
findagrave has been very helpful to me here in the US. I've considered joining the organization and inputting things when I'm researching for myself. Case in point...I was in northern Minnesota and trying to find someone in a smallish cemetery. With my cellphone, I got an internet connection and wen...

Re: Brown or Browne from Cappanageeragh
Paddy - Thanks...I would never have seen an ampersand in that handwriting. Now as I look closer, I guess I can see "Ml" as the name of the junior. I, too, wondered about grandfather and grandson on the same property. I've been unable to find a George Browne (father) being the owner of land in Clonda...

Re: Brown or Browne from Cappanageeragh
pwaldron had a recent post about the National Archives which prompted me to relook for the Brownes. I had run across this before and could use some help understanding what is written here: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587419/004587419_00348.pdf In the third line, it ...

Re: Looking for Dohertys
I found something on Ancestry, but you probably know most of the Australian side. A public family tree shows Sarah Ann married a William Hill (1831-1921) and Willam was born in England and died in Claremont. It shows her father as James Doherty (b 1812 - d?). Sarah and William had at least one child...

Re: New handy, private search engine for the Internet
Interesting ideas for new search engines. Anyone ever try dogpile - http://www.dogpile.com/ - would it be useful for genealogy? My boss like to use it at work...I tend to stick with google.
