Re: MCNAMARA'S OF FORTVILLE, LICPUCKANE, KILMALEY

Have you looked for this family in Twigge's book on the MacNamara family? http://oac.ie/site/content/pedigrees-macnamara-family My understanding is that Edward Bennett senior married Margaret McNamara and they had a son Edward Bennett junior who married Catherine McMahon. Margaret McNamara had siste...

In 1901, only the two oldest of James Kelly's five children are living with their father and stepmother in Finnor Beg: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Cloonadrum/Tinnor_Beg/1078092/ His youngest daughter Louisa is with her maternal grandmother in Doonmore: http://www.census.na...

Re: niece/nephew = grandchild ?

Another Sligo/Mayo example ... Bridget Kelleher was baptised in KILSHALVEY KILTURRA (Bunninadden) parish in County Sligo. In 1901, she was a Sligo-born niece of Luke and Mary Walsh: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Sligo/Achonty_East/Cashel_South/1685990/ In 1911, she was a Mayo-born...

Re: DEENIHAN of Kilrush

The Gallipoli campaign had a devastating effect on one Kilrush family in August 1915. Thomas Deenihan died there on 11 Aug 1915 aged 28, leaving a widow and three children under five and a number of siblings, including Catherine, married to Martin McGrath, also away at war at the time, with three ch...

Re: niece/nephew = grandchild ?

A Sligo/Mayo example: Mary Ellen O'Donnell was born on the Mayo side of the county boundary on 8 May 1898. Her mother died and her father remarried on 9 Feb 1900. Mary Ellen went to live with her maternal grandparents on the Sligo side of the county boundary after her mother's death, while her broth...

Re: niece/nephew = grandchild ?

Another example from Galway: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Templetogher/Cartron_West/1382466/ Dan Reilly, a male school boy, was described by his grandparents as their "niece". In 1911, the form was clearly poorly edited before it was collected, so that the 48-year-old head...

Another example: John Clancy was described as his maternal grandmother Bridget Cunningham's nephew in 1911 at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Killard/Killard/365208/ They were in separate households in the same townland in 1901: John: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/page...

Re: Glynn family mystery still

The general policy was to microfilm only pre-1880 church records. So for an 1886 baptism in most Clare parishes, you will have to either consult the original register in the parish or pay Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre a large sum for whatever extract it made when allowed to borrow the original r...

Here's another example from County Mayo: Anne McCann was described as a niece in her grandmother's household in 1901: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Mayo/Swineford/Lagcurragh/1601152/ Only her uncle is left in the household in 1911: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/...

An unusual example from Mayo, where the granddaughters are described as "Niece" but their brother as "Grand Son":
