Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, My apologies as I think I may have confused you regarding the "Jack" McNamara. I incorrectly made the assumption that "Jack" stood for "John" as this was the nickname for my own grandfather. It's the more common usage, but for this McNamara family who had three James McNamara's, "Jack" ap...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thanks for your timely feedback as always. Yes, the priest in Tulla appears to have made a mistake for the birth of "Michael" in 1847: no mother's first name listed: "Michael Foley" father and "Foley" mother, with no location. There was a "Michael Foley" in Tulla so perhaps he got confuse...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Well I really made a dog's breakfast out of the Patrick McNamara family of Derryulk and Cloondanagh! Thanks for sorting out the mess. I'll get back to Cloondanagh another day as have interesting information from the Land War period for this family. Excellent work in tracking down the myst...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thanks for your feedback! Yes, there was a bit of speculation involved but it is good to have the detail laid out all in one place. And I've been speculating whether Thomas McNamara and his two remaining children with a one third spilt of Plot 3 in Glandree would have been dependent upon ...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thank you. That is good information on Catherine McNamara Jones as a potential sister which I was able to double down on. Yes, who is Kate a sister to? and did she have other sisters? When I started the search for the missing Thomas McNamara of Glandree, my chart only included those McNam...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, thanks again for your help and especially for obtaining the marriage record for Anne McNamara. Yes, it does appear that not very many of the McNamara's remained in Glandree. About your research into John McNamara of Ballyoughtra and possibly of Kilmore, I think you were very brave to use ...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thank you for your efforts in determining the likely parents of Anne McNamara who married John Canny in 1864. Although John McNamara and Bridget Coffey were not the parents of Anne McNamara Canny as you had expected, this does not eliminate their children as half-siblings of the missing T...

Hi Lucille, I discovered this blog article by Harriet Wheelock today "Medical Men and Sinking of RMS Leinster" from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland heritage website: http://rcpilibrary.blogspot.com/2018/10/medical-men-and-sinking-of-rms-leinster.html The anniversary of the sinking was Oct...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

When the five Glandree men were arrested in 1890 for shooting into the Donnellan house, I gave no context to their actions, or accused actions, from a historical perspective. The period of the Land War (1882-1891) is nicely summarized at the Clare Library website associated with the evictions at Bod...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

The "Widow McNamara" evicted in 1891 was most certainly Anne Halpin McNamara, but I was incorrect to state that there was no sign of any other McNamara's (besides descendants of Andrew and Bridget McNamara) living in Uggoon after 1837. There were three McNamara's in the Tulla sacramental records who...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

As far as when the poem "The Hills of Sweet Glandree" was written by the School Master Michael Molony, I've been reading up on some Irish history and have changed my mind. The timing was most likely just prior to it being published in the Irish Standard of Minneapolis on 20 March 1903. Yes, from a l...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Yes, of course "moon" rhymes with "Uggoon"! Not sure how I didn't think of that as Michael Molony even started the first few lines of "The Hills of Sweet Glandree" with the same theme: O'er those bonny hills, so fair and grand, The silent moonbeams play, The stars of night, like diamonds bright, The...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thanks again for sharing the 1883 death record of Bridget McNamara of Uggoon, that was a very important clue. From your heroic efforts transcribing the County Clare registers, your opinion on their completeness certainly holds a lot of weight. My only concern is that a family researcher m...

Re: Information is wanted of Thomas McNamara, of Glandree,

Hi Sheila, Thanks very much for answering my questions on Griffith's Valuation maps. With my second attempt at using the maps it was easy to find Uggoon and Glandree. It did take a minute to find Plot 47 the home of Andrew McNamara (son of Andrew Sheady McNamara) who we think was killed on the road ...
