Re: Sexton Miltown Malbay

You will find George's marriage to Bridget Carroll on 21st January 1872 on the Church records on the National Library of Ireland site http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634728#page/17/mode/1up Written on the left are some hieroglyphs which I think can be translated as Miltown - this was the pa...

Re: Sexton Miltown Malbay

Hi Kev There is a George Sexton listed in the 1839 Miltown Malbay census which has been discussed on this forum - http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2273 Go to the latest posting on this topic to get the current url for the census. It has both the original and a transcription. Lucille

Re: Clancy of Miltown Malbay

Hi all

Just found this

Clare Champion 17 August 1907 Death of Mrs Andrew Clancy, Miltown Malbay

Presumably née Ellen Honan, who according to the article which started this thread, was the aunt of O'Dwyer-Aglauna. does anyone know anything about this O'Dwyer?

Thanks

Re: Non-registration of deaths

At a lecture yesterday given by Stephen Smyrl, respected genealogist, on the topic of Wills in Ireland he said that he had found many cases where wills were probated but no death certificate was found. So whether or not it was official policy, it appears to have been fairly common practice.

Re: Passenger lists from Ireland to Australia in 1800's

There's a John Garvey age 30 arriving in Victoria in 1885 at http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=23. The same record is on Ancestry which also shows the original record, which unfortunately has no information except his name and age. That is my experience of both Australian and US records -...

Hi Mary

This recent donation to the Clare Library Website gives a lot of information about assisted immigration as well as convicts

Re: Non-registration of deaths

Hi Sheila

I remember reading that article of John Grenham's. He seems to suggest that using both FamilySearch and irishgenealogy.ie would turn up everything that is there, but I'm beginning to think that I need to check the books in the GRO - I thought I was finished with those!

Thanks

Re: Non-registration of deaths

Thanks Sheila and Margaret, I wonder are there any 'historical legal types' out there who would know if using a newspaper notice was ever enough to probate a will. Given that all three wills in question were probated in Limerick it's not as if there was immediate local knowledge involved. In order t...

Non-registration of deaths

Hi Does anyone have experience of the non-registration of deaths in the first half of the 20th century in West Clare? In my particular case I'm talking of the parish of Kilmurry Ibrickane, with Kilrush as the Registration district. I have three instances of deaths in 1918, 1938 and 1951 where I have...

Re: Denis Shannon, Esq. of Kildimo, Clare who died 23 March

Hi Paddy It was I who asked for the information to be posted on the forum rather than in a PM, not Margaret - so blame me! According to a very old IGI report my 3x gt grandfather, John Dwyer/O'Dwyer of Annagh, married a Margaret Shannon in the late 18th century, before later marrying Mary Fitzpatric...

Re: Denis Shannon, Esq. of Kildimo, Clare who died 23 March

May I suggest that if there is more information on the Shannons of Kildimo that can be shared that it be posted rather than sent as a PM. I'm also interested in the Shannon families of that area.

Thanks

Re: Alleged "Conspiracy to Murder" at Miltown-Malbay in 1882

I'm being a bit mischievous here, but just in case people get the wrong impression of West Clare natives, Mrs Moroney was from Limerick! Death of Mrs E.L. Moroney of Miltown House. Daughter of the late Mr Dartnell, Solicitor, Limerick. Married to the late Burdett Moroney J.P. D.L. Story of boycott e...
