Re: Barack Obama's Clare connection
Thanks for the extra information, Sharon. While I live within sight of St Flannan's Cathedral, Killaloe, I must admit that I don't know as much as I should about its history - but I was surprised to read that it was "then in C of I hands although later again a RC property". It is firmly in C of I ha...

Re: Barack Obama's Clare connection
I think this Clare connection is spurious and results from a failure to realise that the boundaries of the DIOCESE of Killaloe extend far beyond the TOWN of Killaloe and indeed far beyond the boundaries of the COUNTY of Clare. The original research on Obama's Irish roots can be read at http://www.en...

Re: Macinerney of Blakemount, co. Clare and Australia in WWI
Information newly digitised at naa.gov.au: On 13 Mar 1921, Madge send a handwritten letter, from 39 Raglan Street, East St. Kilda, directly to the Honorable A. S. Rodgers, Acting Minister for Repatriation, relative to her desire to obtain assistance in business, but including lots of fascinating bac...

Re: Fr. Thomas Shannon, Clare to Philadelphia
Sharon Your "not researching ..." postings are forming an invaluable archive for other researchers. 1. A couple of days ago, Michael McNamara asked whether my Frost research had uncovered any information about the O'Grady/Frost family of Brookland (Brooklyn?) commemorated at another St. John the Bap...

Re: News items for Ennis, central Clare, and undetermined places
Hi Sharon I have now read the Other Clare article and followed up some of the references to Ivar O'Brien's `O'Brien of Thomond'. (Maurice Cuffe's daughter Elizabeth m. 8 Feb 1652 Joseph Deane; their daughter Elizabeth Deane married as her second husband the widowed Sir Donough O'Brien, 1st Bt., of D...

Re: News items for Ennis, central Clare, and undetermined places
Thanks, Sharon. I will look up that Other Clare article when I get a chance. I didn't realise when I posted the Cuffe information above that there was a triangle of marriages between Frosts, Morans and Cuffes: On 23 Jan 1855, James Frost M.R.I.A., the famous Clare historian, married Bedelia Moran. O...

Re: News items for Ennis, central Clare, and undetermined places
It should not be a surprise that Jane O'Brien Moran was named after her mother: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/odavoren/notes.htm has a tombstone inscription: Inserted into the east gable, in south-east angle of the chancel of the old church of Noughaval, is a slab with the follo...

A couple of slight corrections to one of the marriage notices posted by Sharon above: December 2, at Cratloe Church, by the Rev. M. O'Connor, P.P., of Clare Abbey, Joseph P. CUFFE, Esq., eldest son of Laurence Cuffe, Esq., of Alma-terrace, Monkstown, to Jane O'Brien, third daughter of Augustine MORA...

Re: McDermotts of Cooraclare area & Shragh
Mrs Crotty was the daughter of Michael Markham and Margaret Keane (see 1901 census of Gower North). Con Colbert's mother was Norah Josephine MacDermott, daughter of the famous schoolteacher Cornelius (Connor) MacDermott and his wife Catherine Breen: April 26, at Corraclare, county Clare...Michael, s...
