Re: Deciphering Handwriting

I appreciate the insight Sharon...it can be difficult to put our selves in the position at the time of the notation. In your case, the second letter is supposed to be an "a" and you show many, many entries that could easily look like an "a", mostly "o" which is very obvious. My own last name has an ...

Re: Deciphering Handwriting

You guys must have better eyes than I do...I don't see how the second letter can be an "e". It looks more like the "u" in January than an "e" in other words. But if that works for you!! :)

Re: Deciphering Handwriting

At first, I thought it was Muliean...the "ie" looks similar to the "ie" in Daniel. But that can't be a real name...didn't find anything similar in google. But it might be Mulican...there are Mulican's in County Cork.

Re: Linking to Griffith's Valuation maps at askaboutireland.

What about trying a right click on the page in question, then go to Properties. Often times the URL is listed there which you can then cut-n-paste. I just tried it and it seemed to work. It was a very long URL but I put that in tinyurl.com to create a shorter link. When I used that link, it took me ...

Thanks...I poked around and didn't see anything, though some months are missing. I'll keep looking.

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

That's an interesting listing of deaths. Does something like that exist for other places in County Clare? I've been trying to confirm the 1850 death date of my relative George Brown(e) in Cappanageerah? I've not been able to find anything like this. Sorry to hijack the thread...

Thanks...Kurt

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

That's what I'd like to know...who lived in the house in the 1800s? When was it built?

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

Sam - Thanks for all that typing!! The first entry for Andrew may be a relative. Some of my Browns married Clearys. Plus the first son, Nicholas, is likely a call back to another family member. Other than that, the other names don't appear to be related to me. As I had mentioned, it seems most all t...

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

You mentioned the book of Clare Brownes. It doesn't look like you can buy a copy online, but you were able to get copies of pages from somewhere? Is this a source you wouldn't mind sharing? Sam - I look forward to seeing your post on marriages/baptisms. As for the book that I mentioned, there appea...

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

Murf - With nothing else to go on, the last entry for Michael Brown could be correct for my situation. I have a Michael Brown (b ~1780) from England along with a brother Nicholas. A third brother, Peter, is said to have gone to Australia. Michael had one son, George, that I know of. George's first b...

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

Sam - Thanks for the info. Your wife's side of the family doesn't match up with anything that I've been looking into. My Irish ancestors are George Brown(e) married to Ellen Maloney, both born in the early 1800s. They had twelve kids and it appears that most left for the US before 1850 or else in 18...

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

Sam - I can't help with the photo, but I'm certainly interested. I, too, have been researching the Brown(e) side of my family. I'm sure Brown(e) is fairly common. I've posted a number of times on this forum. I haven't been able to piece much together. I think my relatives were more from Cappanageera...
