Re: MCGIFF FAMILY INFORMATION

Hi Rick - just to add to info supplied by P.J. - I decided to check when Cornelius got married - - and found that he married in Cork in 1926 - so this gave a lead to Cork - as per familysearch.org - I found the following: James Patrick McGiff - - 1861 to 1932; - poss. his wife - Nora - 1873 - 1940; ...

Re: 100 years of steele's terrace

I seem to knock myself off - try again - - perhaps you could get details from Clare Champion newspaper - - I remember seeing coverage of the occasion in the paper. Or maybe the book could be donated to Clare Library - History page. Is there a website for Ennis parish ?? - maybe a message there might...

I see on the Marriage Register for Kilmihil Parish that James Pilkington m. E. Haren in 1887; and John Pilkington m. Margaret Honan in 1867. - A more recent marriage - in 1952 P.J. Pilkington m. Florence McMahon.

Re: Browne Family - Can anyone recognize this house?

Great work !! The house is almost identical - just one chimney missing on right - and some new steps, etc. at entrance. What family lived there in early 1900's ??

Re: Irish inscription on Burke grave in Killernan

Hi Paddy - I see Dunsallagh is in DED of Annagh - in Parish of Kilmurray/Ibricken. I think it translates roughly as - erected by John Hynes in memory of Maigread (Margaret) who died Dec. 1911 aged 61 - l plus 3 x ficid - 3 x 20 - . You would need to see the inscription.

Re: Corry in Kilrush, Co. Clare

Hello Sue - At a guess I would say that your Corry family came from Killimer Parish - which is only out/down the road from Kilrush. I see two Patrick Corrys on Griffith Vals. of 1855 - go to www.clarelibrary.ie - Genealogy - select Griffith Vals. of 1855. Some more of the name in adjoining parishes....

Re: Corry from Clounlaheen

Today I met a friend who comes from Clounlaheen, Mullagh, Ennis, Co. Clare - she told me that the Corry family are still there. You also had a post re Egans of Cahermurphy, Kilmihil. If you go to www.Kilmihil.com you will see details of a new booklet - ' Kilmihil Revisited ' - I think it costs 10 eu...

Re: Pierce family Knock Co Clare

Yes indeed - there are so many spellings of the name. The nearest family to the area of Knock which I found on 1901 Census was Michael Pierce aged 32 with his wife and family at Chapel St., Kilrush. They are not on the 1911 census at that address.

Re: Pierce family Knock Co Clare

I am back again !! - I did a bit of 'research' on familysearch.org - I see a Bridget Pearse born to Frederick Pearse and Bridget Murphy in 1875. Frederick Pearse died in 1907/8 (registered in Jan. 1908) - so this could be a connection. The name is also written PIERCE for other children in the family.

Re: Pierce family Knock Co Clare

Hi - it is possible that Bridget's mother married again - you would need to get a copy of marriage cert. of James & Bridget and that will show the names of their fathers. There are various spellings of the surname - Pierce, Pearce, Pearse - etc. I see on Census of 1901 there is a family living at Ch...

Re: BALLYVAUGHAN 1819 Any info

Hello - one particular document should be of interest - 'Mason's Parochial Survey of 1814'. I think that Ballyvaughan is in the Parish of Abbey - so look at the Clare Library site - Genealogy - Research Support - Civil Parish Index - Abbey Parish. - or next Parish to the west is Gleninagh.
