parish records

Hi Sheila and other wonderful transcribers - can you kindly clarify the meaning of this type of entry in the marriage records?

"de Fineborensi, cura D(?) Connill"

does it mean the bride was from outside the groom's parish? is cura meaning curate?

thanks, Kerry

Re: Gavin family Tulla

Hi Linda - did your Patrick Gavin marry a Mary Ann Martin in NSW? If so, I think we have a common relation in his son Patrick.

Re: Queally, Quilligan and Quillinan

I sympathise with all of us chasing many Irish names - I've counted 10 versions of Kierce in both the Irish & Aust records! After the "Cromwellian settlement", when the Irish language was no longer to be taught and most Catholics weren't allowed to get an education (amongst many other restrictions &...

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

Thank you again Sheila, especially for the tip about the Petty Sessions records that survived. Keep these gems coming - I can see another visit to Ireland is on the cards - especially more time in the wonderful Clare library.

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

PS Sheila - are you aware of any maps of these Termon lands? was there a map attached to that land sale notice of 1873? In 1855 Griffiths, the Linnanes and Kierces are adjoining neighbours, which makes the marriage of a Michael Kierce and Anna Lynane (about 1830) very possibly related to these same ...

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

Sheila - you have provided another gem to those of us in the diaspora. The attachment to your last post (sale of landed estates) included 2 of my ancestors (Kierce). A number of the O'Hehir and Kierce families lived on the Kilnaboy Termon lands, which surrounded the old Kilnaboy church. Thank you fo...

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

Hi again - I have a Michael Keirce (quite likely related to my Kierce ancestor) married to an Anna Lynane (she of Culleen, Kilinaboy) - son Patrick Kierce born 1834. Does this ring any bells to you?

Donnellan and Allen

I note a reunion planned in Albury (NSW) for descendants of a James Allen & Mary (nee Donnellan) of Victoria. Those chasing either names may like the contact details: Peter on ubique@tpg.com.au

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

PS - forgot to add the following baptisms, showing the strong links with Mullins/Griffy/Linnane:
*Cath Curley & Martin Griffy sponsors for baptism of Patrick Griffy's & Bridget Larkin's child in 1826
*Maria Griffy sponsor for child of Thomas Lynane & Bridget Cashee in 1832

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

Geoff, there is strong evidence the John Mullins (married Cath Curley) you mention is related to Catherine Mullins in my tree. Possibly siblings, as the baptism of children implies: *Cath Mullins & James Griffy had Cath Mullins in 1833 - sponsor Michael Driscoll *same couple had Bridget Mullins in 1...

Re: Ursuline Convent Schools In Belgium

Hi again Susan - both the archivists I contacted gave me the details I asked for - parents names and town of residence. But the info related to the 1860s and 1890s, so could not possibly relate to any one still living. I would say each archivist would operate by the school's current policy (they pro...

Re: Ursuline Convent Schools In Belgium

Hi Susan, I have had success contacting the archivists at schools that still exist. It is worth googling several dioceses & contacting them to ask about schools run by that order.

Re: Linnane family from Corofin, County Clare

I have Mullins in my tree, mainly from Carrownamadra (various spellings), a townland very near Corrofin. The one I have most info on is a Catherine Mullins (1806-1884) married a James Griffy in Clare, her father was John, mother Margaret Kierce. A number of Mullins were sponsors at baptisms of the b...

Thanks for the "heads up" on this critical data Murf. I should be monitoring Claire's site more regularly than I do.
