Irish acres and English acres

Sheila, in your post of 24/6/2019 re Thomas McNamara of Glandree, you have implied that the earlier Tithe Applotment Books' measurement of acreage is in Irish acres and the Griffiths Valuation' measurements are in English acres. Can you kindly clarify for me where Griffiths makes this distinction cl...

Re: Workhouse Infirmaries

Thank you Sheila & Murf for your historical sleuthing. This information is really important for our understanding of the death records & I will be passing it on to my family history students here in Oz.

Thank you again Sheila - a really important piece of information; greatly adds to our interpretation of death records, particularly in more remote areas.

Re: Workhouse Infirmaries

Thank you Sheila for this very useful information. I had suspected this may be the case, given so many people are noted as having died there when one is searching the records. It is good to have that hunch verified.

Hi Sharon, I'm sorry your journey to the archives took so long - thank you so much for including Robert Kierce in your searches. You have provided us with some fantastic pieces of information. I look forward to Ellen's details & hope we can glean enough info to ascertain Robert's family connections....

Re: John Nash 1815-1880 and Jane Quilty- Kilrush

The Church of Ireland is commencing a digitisation project of its B&M records, so you may be able to have more luck finding the records in the future.

migrants to the US

Finally, I have found the Nth Irish family I had been searching for, for about a decade. They had shortened their (very Italian) name to Gasper - no wonder I couldn't find them under their original name! I should have realised that was a possibility, as I had gone to school with children whose paren...

Re: further assistance with US access to Ancestry.com

Thanks Kurt - don't think this is them. Catherine (nee Jones) Gasperine arrived in NY in 1890 (I have those details), stating she was single (no evidence of her children on that ship). It seems her husband Adriano (possibly changed to Andrew) had already gone to the US before her 4th child was born....

Re: further assistance with US access to Ancestry.com

Thanks for trying to assist, but none of these people are my Catherine (she was a Jones from Ireland) married an Adriano Gasperine/i in Scotland, then went to NY. I know she lived in NY, as her son (my grand-aunt's husband) visited many times. I am hoping the Ancestry records are the correct ones. K...

Re: assistance with US access to Ancestry.com for Irish reco

Thank you Jimbo & Dosfromclare. Seems this immigrant had a hard life, judging by the records. He married a widow, who died a few years later - Peter seems to have taken responsibility for her children (looking at the census for 1920).

assistance with US access to Ancestry.com for Irish record

Hello - I am hoping that someone on the forum with access to the US version of Ancestry.com could kindly check an Irish relation for me? I only have the UK Heritage level access, but a search of the US records shows a Peter Valkenburg born abt 1882 in Ballinrobe, Mayo ( not Van/von Valkenburg) depar...
