Re: Converts to Catholicism in Clare/Limerick (Spaight Name)
The other possibliity is that there were Catholic Spaights already in Ireland before the protestant Spaights came. The protestants all at some point converted from Catholicism. Certainly some Spaights came over and got land grants in the late 1600s (mentioned in Frost) and it would seem likely it is...

Re: County Clare Placename - Deciphering Handwriting
We have quite a lot of research on Mungovan from Ennis and Magowna/Inch. Bridget was a real name in the Mungovans.
I dont think this is the same family though maybe, what did Bridget do according to the ships record ?

Paddy on your acquiring a plot at Quin comment. My Quinn family lived in Inch and outside Ennis (edenvale). They are buried in a plot in Quin abbey in the abbey itself. They have a family story about how they helped the last friar. They think that their ancestors came from Drim. The vault has a mode...

Re: Tithe Applotment Books Webpage at National Archives
Doonogan was at least partly at that stage part of the O'Brien estate, some of it was later sold to Casey. I dont think it all belonged to the same landlords. Part of Doonogan is poor land part around Doonogan Castle is very good

Kenneth There are Gallerys living in Miltown Malbay who are related to those Gallerys in Doonogan. His uncle Fred Gallery lived there when I was growing up. Though my family of Gallerys also lived in Doonogan we are not related at all we moved from Ennis in the late 1800s. You will see Maria Gallery...

Re: Interpreting handwriting in Tithe Applotment Books
Thanks Paddy for telling me about this link. It has cleared up a few things by giving the full record including the fact that my grandfather called our family home in Doonogan Dromin and said it was the name of an old Townland (it is such on the ordnance survey) Here David Kenny has it as Drominavei...

Re: Manning, Kenny, White, Enright, Ryan, Mean(e)y, S'milebr
I have been looking at Kenny families in the area. There are at least three families. I know your people are not the family I am looking at as I know Margaret Kenny married Laurence Quinlivan of Rathloobain. Maybe they are one of these late 1700s There were Kennys in NewMarket who emigrated to Austr...
